Sleeping in Savasana

My yoga journey

Innovative Learning Week Day of Yoga

on February 23, 2015

Last week was University of Edinburgh’s Innovative Learning Week. There were a range of events and workshops throughout the week. The one that I attended was the Yoga Society’s day of yoga on Saturday. They’d managed to get some of the best teachers in Edinburgh to run classes for free.

The venue was the Student Association building Teviot Row House. It’s one of the buildings that inspired JK Rowling for Hogwarts and is a really lovely and historic space. This was my view upwards during the first class.IMG_3679

A friend and I attended two different classes, Hatha with Helen O’Shea (check out her website for an awesome video of her doing yoga on the Millennium Bridge in London) and Vinyasa Flow with Helen Gillespie. Both were really good but very different styles. I still much prefer Vinyasa Flow and I am trying to find a time that I can attend Helen’s classes more regularly.

All the classes were super busy but the teachers moved people so that everyone had enough space. Again it showed me how useful it is to have a mat to define your space and even more so in classes of 50+ people.

They are running a beginners workshop in the same venue next weekend to raise funds for EWRASA centre. I’m not 100% sure what I’m doing on Saturday but I’m going to try to make it.
