My yoga journey

Does Meditation Count as Yoga?

on January 12, 2016

Yesterday I had to work late so had to miss my yoga class. I managed to use a rehearsal space in the building that I had a meeting in later that night but I was slightly dead after work and my intention was to do some proper yoga but I wasn’t really feeling it.

So instead I did a short seated yoga practice with a video from Yoga By Candace. It was a really nice chilled practice which was exactly what I needed.

I then did about 10 minutes of mediation practice. I’ve been trying to do more meditation and it’s difficult to fit it into my day for anything more than 5 minutes at a time. I know that I can make time but other things seem more pressing.

I still feel like I didn’t practice properly yesterday. I did 25 minutes of practice if you count the meditation. Which lead me to think, do I count meditation as practice? I don’t really but I should, especially if I’m aiming to do more of it.

Once you are absorbed in Yoga, everything “counts” as Yoga.

I think of asana practice as the moving part of my meditation, rather than the meditation being only the sitting still part that follows the physical practice.

Absolutely! Yoga isn’t just asana practice, it’s meditation, pranayama practice…anything that links the body, mind, and spirit.
