Essential oils and meditation

I have had some serious issues with sleep in the past. To the point where I was on sleeping tablets for a short while as I wasn’t really sleeping due to stress and other stuff going on.

I’ve got much better but I still have some issues. I have started using a combination of guided meditation and essential oils at bed time. I find that I now associat the smell of lavender with feeling sleepy. It can be a problem when a yoga teacher sprays it in class but it relaxes me so it’s not a bad thing.

I got two new aromatherapy rollerball scents this week from Tisserand. One for bedtime called Sweet Dreams and one for work called Focus.

I’m still sticking as best I can to my whole food diet and I’m having a few issues with afternoon slump. Normally I’d eat some chocolate or something sugary to get me through it but I’m not at the moment. I’m hoping that the oil helps but I’ll need to try it for a few days to see.

    I purchased a yoga course from the Great Courses in the past year or so to help me get back into it. When I first learned yoga years ago, we did five inhalations of diaphragmatic breathing for our positions. The teacher of the new class has a different and much deeper method of breathing which I have used to great effect in falling asleep at night. Here it is: begin with a five count diaphragmatic breath IN. then, instead of exhaling, take a further five count breath in while expanding the lungs and letting the stomach come back to normal. I find these extremely deep breaths work wonders in bringing me down to slumberland. Maybe they will work for you, too.
