Sleeping in Savasana

My yoga journey

Studying and New Learning

on November 9, 2016

One of the reasons that my blogging has been a bit more sporadic than usual is that I’ve been learning a lot of new things over the past month. I’m now approaching the end of my yoga teacher training and although it’s great I still feel that I have so much more to learn.

The first set of information that I’ve been looking at was based around yin yoga so it was interesting to see a some different options on how best to teach. The main thing that I took away from this was the use of quotes in classes. It helps create a theme and focus the class. I’ve done this a couple of times and I think certainly in January I’m going to do a couple of focused classes with a theme as one off workshops.

The other learning from this was that the teacher recommends doing and teaching silent classes. This is very different from how I normally teach and I’m trying this for the first time later today. It’s going to be challenging getting students into and out of poses without giving verbal corrections. I’m looking forward to it.

From the second set of notes that I’ve been looking at, I’ve learned some interesting ways of teaching gentle flows of movements so again this is something that I’m looking forward to introducing in my classes as I think some gentle movements before starting yin poses will help with the staying still in the longer yin poses.
