Sleeping in Savasana

My yoga journey

Handstanding Yogi

After a weekend of doing acroyoga earlier this year I was recommended to get this book to help work on my handstands. I’ve not had time to read it properly yet but it’s got some really good exercises and techniques so I’ll be starting on them over the next few weeks.

Handstands are back on my agenda and things to work on. I’m certainly aiming to get more in balance over the next few months along with building up my home practice.

I had visitors arriving for the weekend late on Friday night so was having a quiet evening before they arrived. After eating and watching some TV I felt the need to stretch and thought I’d do a few handstands. This turned into quite a long handstand session. I also played around with a new app on my phone and made a little video of me doing a handstand which is Here on Instagram

It was good fun and I managed to hold things well. In class on Thursday I got told I need to move further away from the wall to improve my balance. I see what she means as I think I’m relighing too much on the wall or a spotter to stop me going too far. If I’ve not got a spotter or wall I don’t go far enough. Time to move it a bit further away from the wall (but close enough that the wall still catches me if I completely over) and see how I go.

After doing normal handstands I also tried hollow back handstands against the wall. They seem to be working ok but I’ve no idea how you would hold them away from the wall. They do give the lower back a good stretch though so I’ll do more of them against the wall.

PS don’t you love my ‘ballet’ top. I found it in a charity shop for £4 and it’s super comfortable and great with jeans or leggings. It might be a new favourite workout to coffee/dinner outfit.

YBC Balance Report

For March I have been taking part in a yoga challenge from Yoga By Candace with the theme of balance. I have been working on my handstands but also restoring balance to my life in general. I’m feeling more settled, more sure of what the future holds and generally happier. It’s been a productive month.

In terms of handstands at the beginning of the month I was struggling to hold myself up and keep my arms straight.

At the end of the month my line was much better, my arms are straight and I’m starting to float my toes away from the wall to balance freely. It’s been hard work and a lot of training but it’s really good to see the progress that I’ve made and I hope to continue to make.

Here is my end picture, which I’m really proud of.

Weekend training in Germany

A quick post as I’m back from Germany having spent the weekend upside down and training lots. I feel like my handstands are improving but they don’t look like it in my photos. Maybe I need to take more photos and try less.

My main achievement was flying hand to hand, or a handstand on someone’s someone’s hands. A lot more practice and balance is needed before it’s solid but something to work on.

I also got taught a really lovely acroyoga routine which I’m keen to practice once I’ve rested and recovered for this weekend. In all a challenging trip but worth it.
